Artist Statement:
With this quote, Donald Trump was flexing the might of his immense privilege. White. Male. Straight. Famous. And rich. He was saying rather plainly, to laughs of his sycophants, that women were things to be taken at will. Mere objects. That he was entitled to them.
As a writer, I think about the power of editing all the time. Too often, I want to use all the words possible to make my point when perhaps fewer would be a stronger message for the reader. I have struck through the words of the now president and left him with the message he should be sending to women (and other groups who struggle to be equally treated). Instead of this being a statement wherein Donald Trump asserts his privilege, it is one where he gives others the agency to pursue with equality their own ambitions.
